Those who want to explore Italy by traincould save significantly with an offer from Trenitalia . Under the name "Italia in Tour," the Italian railway company offers a ticketthat allows travelers to ride the regional network without restrictions for several days. Instead of purchasing individual tickets for each route, passengers receive a pass that can be used flexibly throughout the booked period. As Trenitalia explains on the official information page for the offer, the ticket is aimed at travelers who want to connect different places and regions with one another.
Two options are available for adults. "Italia in Tour 3" costs 35 euros and is valid for three consecutive days. There is also "Italia in Tour 5" for 59 euros, covering five travel days. During this time, passengers can board and exit as many times as they wish. The ticket is personal and non-transferable. A name change is not possible. Changes to the start date, however, are permitted multiple times up until the day before use, according to Trenitalia. Refunds are not available.
Families could benefit as well
In addition to adult fares, Trenitalia also offers reduced prices for children between four and eleven years old. The three-day version is priced at 18 euros, and the five-day option at 30 euros. Children under four travel free of charge under the standard terms and conditions .
This could be particularly appealing for families planning multiple day trips within a single region. Those vacationing in Tuscany, Campania, or Liguria, for example, would not need to book separate tickets for each outing.
Where the ticket can be especially worthwhile
The offer is most attractive where many regional connections are closely linked. One could imagine, for example, spending several days around Naples with excursions to Caserta, Salerno, or smaller towns in the area. Similarly, round trips through Tuscany or between Bologna, Parma and Modena could become easier to plan.
Regional trains in Italy are often marked with "R" or "RV," standing for "Regionale" and "Regionale Veloce." Unlike high-speed trains, these services require no seat reservation, allowing passengers to travel with a fair degree of flexibility.
Travelers should be aware of these limitations
Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, and Intercity services are not included. Those looking to cover long distances as quickly as possible will still need separate tickets. There are also regional exceptions. The ticket is not valid, among other places, within Lombardy, in parts of South Tyrol, in the Cinque Terre area, and on certain special routes operated by other providers.
Those planning to visit several cities in a short period of time should therefore check in advance which connections are actually covered.
